HORSEPOWER CALCULATIONS FOR SPEED CHANGES ON
VARIABLE TORQUE LOADS
(Fans, Blowers, & Centrifugal Pumps)
Print
HPnew = HPoriginal x (Speed New/Speed Original)3

Example:

Original HP = 7.5

Original Blower Speed 900 RPM

New Blower Speed 750 RPM

Determine new HP

HPnew = 7.5 x (750/900)3 or

7.5 x (750/900) x (750/900) x (750/900) =

7.5 x .83 x .83 x .83 =

7.5 x .57 = 4.3 HP

Note: Driving Energy Requirement (Watts) go up and down at approximately the same rate as HP.
